Hear Here: Week of February 7

Being surrounded by so many great artists and venues, it's hard to keep track of all of the great shows going on around you...so I'm doing it for you!  This is the first installment of The Bottom String's "Hear Here", a weekly update of all of the best shows going on throughout the state that you should be checking out.

Wednesday, February 9
Colour Revolt w/ Junior Astronomers, Calormen @ Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte, NC
$10
Colour Revolt is an indie rock band that has gone through quite a few changes since their debut LP with "Plunder, Beg and Curse".  They lost all but two of their band members and found themselves having to rebuild, and they successfully did so with their latest record "The Cradle".  As Colour Revolt makes their stop through NC, another favorite of mine Junior Astonomers will be opening, as well as Calormen.  Be sure to check this out if you're in the area, it's going to be a great high-energy show and an awesome way to keep you going throughout the week.

Thursday, February 10

NAPS (Electronic Set)
Arbor Myst (Multimedia Set)
Lonnie Walker's Brian Corrum and friend Nathan Price started up Diggup Tapes last year to help keep the focus on great local musicians and putting out their releases in a unique way...cassettes.  Diggup Tapes are putting out a 12 band compilation that will be released on six two-band cassettes, which can be purchased at the show individually or via a boxed set.  The compilation, "Diggup Tapes Cassingles Volume 1", features Arbor Myst, Birds of Avalon, Embarrassing Fruits, Fat Camp, Gross Ghost, Lonnie Walker, Motor Skills, NAPS, Snails, Veelee, Whatever Brains, and Yardwork.

Local Beer, Local Band w/ Gray Young, Fan Modine, and The Big Picture @ Tir Na Nog in Raleigh, NC
If you're living in Raleigh then there's no excuse for you not to be out at the Local Beer, Local Band shows.  WKNC and Tir Na Nog support the local scene by giving a showcase to local bands every week.  This week local favorites Gray Young will headline, a post-rock band that brilliantly intertwines their vocals with their atmospheric sound.  Indie rock band Fan Modine will be opening along with The Big Picture, a band comprised of members of The Never and Annuals.

Friday, February 11
Diggup Tapes Cassingles Boxset Release @ Kings Barcade in Raleigh, NC
$6
Night 2:
Lonnie Walkers
Embarrassing Fruits
Fat Camp
Special Guests: Bubbly Mommy Gun
Night two of the Cassingles Boxset Release for Diggup Tapes.  Lonnie Walker and Embarrassing Fruits alone on a bill at King's would be a show worth seeing, but once you throw in Fat Camp, Bubbly Mommy Gun, and an excuse to come out and support Diggup Tapes, a great label with a great focus, you've got one hell of a show.

Shipwrecker w/ Fontana, Phil Cook & His Feat @ The Casbah in Durham, NC
$4 adv/$6 at the door
Shipwrecker was a band that I saw at Troika last year that put on a phenomenal live set at The Casbah.  Featuring a unique blend of Americana, country, and rock, Shipwrecker brings a great energy and sound to the stage and they'll be sure to get the crowd moving with their incredibly catchy songs.  Not to mention you've got Fontana, another band that has itself strongly rooted in the country sound, and Phil Cook of Megafaun opening as well, an always entertaining set.

Sunday, February 13
Veelee w/ Motor Skills, Juan Huevos @ Kings Barcade in Raleigh, NC
$5
Another local favorite in Veelee is celebrating their 2nd anniversary of their first live show!  Kings brings the weekend to a show with this awesome show, Veelee are a band that have great chemistry on stage and really get you into the performance.  Plus you've got Motor Skills, one of the numerous bands that features the members of Old Bricks, with Mike Dillon fronting the band.  Oh, and did I mention that rapper Juan Huevos is opening too?  Seriously, I don't even know what to say about Juan Huevos' live set other than that you need to see it.  NEED TO!
